The Primary Learning Centre is a new learning hub for St Mary’s College in Seymour. The building includes learning spaces for six classes, a central gathering space, smaller learning spaces (quiet spaces), and amenities.
Responding to the school’s brief to create indoor / outdoor learning spaces; the design includes a large north facing learning deck. The learning deck is a natural extension of the internal learning spaces and is able to accommodate both large and small groups. This space also includes a centrally located wet area is accessible from both inside and outside.
The spaces make the most of opportunities for natural light by way of north and south facing high level windows. Large weather protected sliding doors and windows encourage cross ventilation.
Familiar materials such as brick, timber, and v-joint cladding make a visual connection to the existing school buildings and also evoke a domestic scale and feel.
